How to Adopt

The Adoption Process

1	Contact us by email or phone - we will ask some questions. This is called a referral.
2	We arrange a visit - to help you decide if adopting a child is right for you.
3	We will help you to make a formal application to be assessed as an adopter..
4	You will come to preparation groups to prepare you for adoptive parenting.
5	We complete an assessment of your suitability to be approved as an adopter. This includes a medical; a CRB check; and references.
6	Your assessment is presented to our panel who recommend whether you should be approved..
7	We work with you to find the right child.
8	The child’s placement is carefully planned and they come to live with you. Your social worker supports you as you get used to being an adoptive family.
9	We help you to apply to the court for an adoption order.

There is no charge for applying to become an adoptive parent.

We will charge £25 for the Preparation Group Workbook - which is less than the cost to us - and your GP will charge for your medical examination.
