Black History Month Podcast Special - Adoption and Identity in the Black Community

To mark Black History Month 2025, our Schools & Communities Manager Leroy joined the podcast team for a special edition of our popular series Adoption in Focus. In an honest and heartfelt conversation, Leroy and Leigh address the barriers that the black community may encounter when considering adoption, and what it really means to create a safe, loving, stable family.

With black children overrepresented in the care system, and sadly tending to wait the longest for adoption, this is an important subject, and one close to Leroy’s heart. He talks about why representation matters, the challenges that still exist, and how community and culture play a vital role in a child’s sense of identity and belonging.

This episode of Adoption in Focus is available on all podcast platforms including Spotify, Apple, and Amazon Music, alongside all previous episodes. They can also be accessed via Buzzsprout, and on Adopterverse. Alternatively, you can listen to Leroy’s Black History Month special using the media player below.
