We provide:

  • high quality training programmes for prospective adopters and adopters

  • support groups for parents and children
  • play and stay groups
  • direct work with children and families to help during more challenging times

Our support for your family starts the moment you begin the process with us and lasts a lifetime.

Nurture the Journey

The cornerstone of our adoption support is 'Nurture the Journey' - a support package tailored to the individual needs of each family.

Nurture the Journey is available to everyone who goes through the adoption process with Adoption Focus and continues throughout training and into placement.

Our Adoption Support Team

Our friendly and expert team are here to support our adoptive families for as long as they need us.

Our dedicated team comprises an experienced manager, social workers and social work assistants. They listen and advise our adopters about a broad range of topics and offer a diverse programme of training, workshops and social events.

We understand that at times adoptive parents can feel de-skilled or rejected when their children don’t allow them to get close or if troubled behaviours persist over time. Recognising that both professional and peer support can be invaluable, and knowing how to provide the right support at the right time, ensures that our adopters know they are not alone.

Support from your allocated social worker

Outside of the adoption support team, our specialist adoption social workers are experienced in working with children and their families. This includes support with life story work, and contact arrangements.  Some of our team members are trained in Theraplay and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), which can help some families. We are continuing to train our staff to ensure we have a range of skills and resources available to support our families.

Our adoption support services are available to all of our adopters and their children indefinitely.
